Do’s and Don’ts of SEO

Do's-and-don'ts-of-SEOSearch engine optimization is a complicated process. In order to get your content optimized according to search engines, you have to take care of a number of factors, including link building, content marketing, user experience, coding, and analytics etc. Your website requires constant maintenance to keep up with these search engines that keep updating their algorithms about a dozen times every year.

There are marketers that have been paying close attention to the industry trends, they have realized a clear pattern in what tactics are favored and which ones aren’t. Based on that, we have compiled some best practices you can adopt and some common mistakes that you should avoid in order to keep your site optimized according to the search engines:

Do’s

  • Add a “link to this article” widget to encourage others to link to your site.
  • Keep updating and publishing new content regularly.
  • Develop infographics, they will be useful in building some quality backlinks for your website.
  • Observe your competitors and follow the practices that are working for them.
  • Design a mobile version of your website, a major portion of the internet traffic consists of mobile phone users, hence, Google favors a mobile friendly design.

  • Don’t stuff the keywords forcibly, Google is smart enough to recognize that and might penalize your site for doing it.
  • Avoid getting links from blog networks. It might get you penalized by Google.
  • Don’t use spamming tactics.
  • Don’t use doorway pages and cloaking software.
  • Don’t get links from pages that have too many external links.
  • Don’t use too many internal links on your homepage, it will overload the page and slow it down.
  • Don’t use titles or tags that are misleading.
  • Don’t write plagiarized content copied from other websites.
  • Don’t position ads in “above the fold” area (the area where you’re supposed to put the most important information or the title).
  • Don’t use sources that artificially share your content for the exchange of money. This will have a negative effect on your ranking as search engines can detect such sources.
